SPARK sessions

SPARK sessions are designed to better meet expectations of conference participants to hear a number of forward-looking lectures addressing new ideas and developments and associated challenges. This approach will also allow more room for discussions, exchange and interactions as well as higher visibility of the posters through extended lightning poster pitches and longer interactive sessions.

SPARK sessions are characterised by the following.

  • SPECIAL TRACK: Two solicited presentations (20 min presentation + Q&A)
  • IMPULSE: Extended period for lightning poster pitches (3 min + 2 min for Q&A)
  • INTERACTIVE: Most submissions presented as posters, more time for discussion
At the conference, the scheduling will be such that all sessions with a SPARK format will be run in parallel at the end of the day, so the structure will be homogeneous for all session blocks.

By the time the call for abstracts will be issued in February 2022, conveners will have decided whether they plan to run their session in this SPARK format, so anyone submitting an abstract to such a session will be aware of the format of the session. The decision which of the submissions will be selected for a SPECIAL TRACK solicited presentation and which will be presented as a poster with a lightning pitch will be made by conveners during the presentation assignment phase (SOIII) in early June and authors informed with the letter of schedule.
