4-9 September 2022, Bonn, Germany

EMS Annual Meeting, 4–9 Sep 2022, Bonn: call for session proposals until 15 Jan 2022

Dear colleagues,

We plan for the 2022 Annual Meeting of the European Meteorological Society – European Conference for Applied Meteorology and Climatology to take place as an onsite event at the University of Bonn, Germany, from 4 to 9 September 2022 – with an online component: https://www.ems2022.eu The online component will tie in nicely with the overall additional focus of the conference “Connecting Communities” as this can lower barriers to participate for those not able to join onsite and also offer many opportunities to better link with stakeholders from all parts of society. However, should the pandemic situation turn to be challenging in September 2022, we will prepare to be flexible and switch to a full online mode. Preliminary information on the conference format is available now.

Call for session proposals

Everyone is invited to contribute to the building of the scientific programme by proposing new sessions and conveners: please visit the present Skeleton Programme and use the tools provided to insert your proposal in the appropriate part of the programme. We encourage all to build diverse convener teams, considering different genders, early-stage scientists and multiple countries or institutes. Details regarding convener tasks are available at convener guidelines

This public call for session proposals is open until 15 January 2022. Following this, the Programme and Science Committee will compile the final session programme for the call for abstracts. We would like to emphasise that, if the onsite meeting is possible, all chairpersons of sessions will be required to be at the meeting in Bonn; online chairing opportunities will not be provided. However, we aim at offering online oral presentation opportunities for online participants.

Connecting communities to deliver seamless weather and climate science and services

The challenges for meteorological science and services are growing continuously as climate change and more frequent extreme weather events with high socio-economic impact pose growing threats. The additional focus of the conference is addressing these challenges, as well as opportunities and benefits from seamless interactions between objectives, methodologies and partnerships: connecting communities and reflecting the focus and activities of our local partners. For more details, please visit the website on the additional focus.

The Annual Meetings of the EMS aim at fostering cross-fertilisation of ideas, feedback between science and applications, and the involvement of all the diverse actors in the fields of weather, climate, water and the environment. The session programme will offer many opportunities for collaboration across the entire weather and climate enterprise (public, private, academic, users, and NGOs) to benefit societies in Europe and worldwide.

We would be delighted if you would inform your colleagues about these opportunities and distribute the invitation to your networks – connecting communities.
